TOPIC: SHINING THE JESUS LIGHT
TEXT: MATTHEW 5:13 – 16
KEY VERSE: “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid”
–Matthew 5:14
The phrase “This little light of mine” first appeared in a 1925 poetry book by Edward G. Ivins. In 1933, newspapers provided the first known references to the song, as much as this poetic song was used in the 1960s civic right movement as they fought for equality and may not have originally been known to be written as religious song for the regular church service, it reminds us of the command of our Lord and savior about the light that we carry, and the song has a bid part in our reflection today, it reminding us of our responsibility to shine the Jesus light to our generation.
In Matthew 5:13 our Lord Jesus said let our light shine for all to see, we don’t light a candle just to hide it, but we’ll need everyone who would need the service of that light to see our spark.
According to the song writer he said while he’s is a little light, he was always going to let it shine, that is determination; what are you doing with the light committed to you by God?
Let that light shine don’t stop it, all men around and far off must see it, a city set on the hill can not be hid.
PRAY WITH ME
My Heavenly Father teach me to keep my light always shinning, in Jesus name, amen
